34 delegations participate in the Folk Song, Folk Dance, Folk Music Festival and Ethnic Costume Performance
On the evening of March 6, at the Muong Thanh Walking Street area in Dien Bien Phu Ward, the opening ceremony of the Folk Song, Folk Dance, Folk Music Festival and Ethnic Costume Performance was held within the framework of the 2026 Ban Flower Festival. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of leaders from provincial departments, sectors and localities.
The Organizing Committee presented commemorative flags to community art troupes participating in the Festival.
The Festival attracted artisans and performers from 34 delegations representing communes, wards and schools across the province, featuring a total of 87 performances of folk songs, folk dances and folk music, along with 26 traditional ethnic costume presentations.
Participants included artisans and amateur performers from ethnic groups living, studying and working in communes and wards across the province. The Festival consisted of two main parts: performances of ethnic folk songs, folk dances and folk music, and presentations of traditional ethnic costumes.
The performances were carefully prepared and elaborately staged, vividly reflecting traditional cultural identities while meeting the cultural and artistic enjoyment needs of the public and contributing to the preservation and promotion of ethnic cultural values.
Artisans and amateur performers presented folk songs and folk dances at the Festival.
The folk song, folk dance and folk music competition was organized in the form of a combined program. Each delegation presented one program consisting of three performances with a maximum duration of 15 minutes, including at least two different genres. These genres included folk songs with traditional regional melodies (solo, duet or group singing); folk dances performed collectively; and folk music with forms such as solo, duet, trio or ensemble performances using traditional musical instruments.
The diverse cultural colors of Dien Bien’s ethnic groups were honored through folk song, folk dance and folk music performances.
For the traditional costume presentation, each delegation presented one performance with three to five male and female performers or a combination of both. The performances included narration over appropriate background music, did not use modified costumes, and lasted no more than three minutes. These presentations were arranged as a separate thematic performance program.
The content of the performances focused on praising the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, expressing love for nature, homeland, country and people, while introducing and promoting traditional cultural features and costumes of the 19 ethnic groups living in Dien Bien Province.
The Organizing Committee awarded certificates and A, B and C prizes to outstanding folk song, folk dance and folk music performances by participating units. For the traditional costume presentation category, prizes included “Most Outstanding Performance” along with A, B and C awards.
The Festival took place from March 6 to March 8, 2026 at the Muong Thanh Walking Street area in Dien Bien Phu Ward and the ceremonial yard of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument. The event was a distinctive cultural activity within the framework of the 2026 Ban Flower Festival, contributing to honoring the cultural identities of ethnic groups and promoting the image of Dien Bien to visitors./.
