Dien Bien Opening of the 2025 Ban Flower Festival, the 8th Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival
On the evening of March 14, at the Stadium, Dien Bien Province solemnly held the Opening Ceremony of the Ban Flower Festival and the 8th Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Day of the ethnic groups of Dien Bien Province, with the theme “Dien Bien – Colors of Ban Flowers Shine Brightly,” in the anticipation of thousands of locals and tourists.
Attending the opening night were Mr. Le Thanh Long, Member of the Central Party Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; international delegates; leaders of several central ministries, departments, and sectors, as well as representatives from various provinces and cities across the country.
On the side of Dien Bien province, there were comrades: Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mua A Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Lo Van Phuong, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Standing members of the People's Council, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien province... The program was broadcast live on VTV1, Vietnam Television and rebroadcast on the Provincial Radio and Television Station.

In his speech welcoming esteemed guests and all the people attending the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Do emphasized: Dien Bien has long been known as one of the cradles of the ancient Thai people; home to the largest Muong Thanh field in the Northwest. Over time, the region has nurtured the unique cultural identity of the Thai, Mong, Kho Mu, and other ethnic groups, collectively creating a land rich in diverse and distinctive cultural heritage, contributing to the treasure of Vietnam and humanity. Proud to be the land of Ban flowers, for many years, the Ban Flower Festival, held annually in Dien Bien Phu City, has become a distinctive tourism brand of Dien Bien, eagerly awaited by people and tourists from near and far. This is not only an opportunity to admire the beautiful natural scenery and experience the unique culture of 19 ethnic groups but also a chance for cultural exchange, cooperation, and development. The success of the Ban Flower Festival and the annual Cultural, Sports, and Tourism events has contributed to making tourism a key economic sector in Dien Bien, turning culture into an intrinsic strength, enhancing national unity, maintaining political stability, and ensuring national defense and security.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and dedication of the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Dien Bien Province, as well as their significant achievements in preserving, maintaining, and promoting the province’s outstanding cultural heritage.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested Dien Bien province and localities in the region to focus on effectively implementing a number of key tasks and solutions: Developing tourism in a professional, modern, focused and key direction; focusing on in-depth development to ensure quality and efficiency, affirming the brand and competitiveness; developing sustainable tourism associated with preserving and promoting the value of historical and revolutionary relics and national cultural values. Developing tourism in a professional, quality and effective direction; gradually shifting from breadth to depth on the basis of taking advantage of and maximizing the potential and typical strengths associated with protecting the environment, natural resources, culture, traditions, and beauty of the land and people of Dien Bien in particular and the Northwest in general. Strengthening cultural exchanges between the ethnic communities of Dien Bien province and localities in the region as well as across the country. Mobilize all resources, encourage the participation of businesses and investors in the service sector, develop infrastructure, and continuously improve the quality of tourism products. Protect and develop Ban flowers in association with forest protection, preserve natural landscapes, ensure a clean ecological environment to serve sustainable tourism development; promote and enhance the brand so that the Ban Flower Festival is truly attractive, becoming an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Continue to organize well the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival of Dien Bien ethnic groups to introduce and widely promote the values and potentials of culture, sports and tourism, promote the cultural heritage values of Dien Bien province in particular and the Northwest region in general; at the same time, strengthen the education of patriotic traditions, consolidate the great national unity bloc, promote economic, cultural and social development in localities. The highlight of the opening night was the artistic program themed “Dien Bien – Colors of Ban Flowers Shine Brightly.” The program included an opening segment: “The Highland Scene – Seasons of Glorious Flowers,” and a featured artistic performance: “Dien Bien – Colors of Ban Flowers Shine Brightly” (Act I: “Touching the Land of Memories”; Act II: “Sensing the Colors and Fragrance”; Act III: “Awakening the Essence – Rising Radiantly”). The performance featured famous artists (Tung Duong, Nguyen Thu Hang, Sen Hoang My Lam, La Hoang Quy, Duong Hoang Yen, Ngo Lan Huong, etc.), as well as professional and amateur performers from central and local artistic units, students, and military personnel stationed in the province.
Through the program, the unique cultural values of Dien Bien were vividly depicted and honored, connecting the past with the present to create a fusion between tradition and modern creativity. The performance not only showcased the beauty of Hoa Ban flowers but also revived the spirit of national unity, highlighting the harmony between people and nature through contemporary art. Each performance emphasized the humanistic values of the Northwest region, conveying messages of community strength, perseverance, and the aspirations of the Dien Bien people. This evoked national pride and a consciousness of preserving the region’s special cultural values. The program utilized modern technology to provide an immersive, grand, and emotionally compelling experience for the audience, locals, and visitors.
At the end of the program, delegates, locals, and both domestic and international visitors joined hands in a great unity circle dance as a spectacular fireworks display illuminated the Dien Bien sky, celebrating the success of the opening night.
Within the framework of the 2025 Ban Flower Festival, the 8th Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival of Dien Bien province (from March 13 to 16) will take place many rich and unique activities: Folk song, folk dance and folk music festival of ethnic groups; Performance and introduction of festival excerpts, traditional cultural rituals of ethnic groups); sports activities (Crossbow shooting; Rice cake pounding; Tug of war; Bicycle pushing and ammunition loading competition; Firecracker pulling competition); tourism activities (Highland cultural space; Cultural and tourism introduction contest of districts, towns and cities; Display and promotion of cultural and tourism products); Live show performance and introduction of legends, history and unique folk dances, folk culture of Thai ethnic group "U Va legend" (at U Va village, Noong Luong commune, Dien Bien district); Street parade with the theme "Colors of Dien Bien"; The 2025 Ban Flower Beauty Contest at the regional level; the “Presstrip” program.
