The Him Lam resistance center was considered the "Steel Gate" that was tasked to defend the central subdivision and control the arterial road from Tuan Giao to Dien Bien Phu. Him Lam Resistance Center was the most solid base in the northeast of Dien Bien Phu Fortress. It was the first stronghold to fall right in the opening battle of Dien Bien Phu Campaign (on March 13th, 1954), and this was also the place to record the example of martyr Phan Dinh Gio’’s heroic sacrifice "to cover up the embrasure with his body."
