Nam Cum radiates in the white bloom of Ban Flowers
In March, Ban flowers bloom white across villages and valleys in Dien Bien. Nam Cum Village, located in Ngoi Cay Commune, Muong Ang District, becomes more dazzling than ever as thousands of ancient Ban trees burst into full bloom, covering the hillsides in pristine white.
From Dien Bien Phu City, traveling along the national highway to the Phieng Ban Valley intersection in Na Tau Commune, turning left, and following the winding roads of Ngoi Cay Commune, visitors will reach the untouched village of Nam Cum. Established in 1997, Nam Cum is home to the Mong ethnic people. In Thai language, "Nam Cum" means "cold water," referring to its high-altitude location near mountain streams, resulting in a cool climate all year round. These days, the winding concrete paths of the village are being cleaned by locals to welcome visitors coming to admire the flowers. Upon entering the village, guests are greeted by rows of ancient Ban trees in full bloom, their pure white flowers contrasting beautifully with the rustic houses scattered throughout the landscape.
The Ban flowers in Nam Cum grow naturally, with some trees being decades to centuries old, their trunks weathered by time. Due to the area's dry and chilly climate, the Ban trees shed their leaves, leaving only buds and white flowers. Visitors to the village can don traditional ethnic attire and capture memorable photos amidst the Ban flower forest.
As part of the 2025 Ban Flower Festival, Dien Bien Province will host various cultural, sports, and tourism activities. Notably, on March 15, a special event will take place, bringing visitors to Nam Cum Village to celebrate the Ban Flower Festival, which aims to promote the conservation and development of Ban trees.
