Nearly 1,500 domestic and international athletes participate in the Dien Bien Phu Marathon 2024 - "Returning to the blooming fortress"

On the morning of January 14th, the Dien Bien Phu city organized a Marathon with the theme "Dien Bien Phu Marathon 2024 - Back to Blooming fortress".

The athletes had an extremely memorable experience at the first running event held in Dien Bien Phu city.

The race attracted nearly 1,500 athletes from all over the country to compete in distances of 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. From early morning, athletes of all ages gathered at 7/5 Square in Dien Bien Phu city to move to the competition point for the 42km distance, warming up and preparing for the competition in the remaining distances.

The athletes started the 10km race.

At 6 am, the participants of the 42km race began at the Monument of the Muong Phang historical site, heading towards the Headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, then circling around the Pa Khoang Lake, an attractive ecotourism destination in Dien Bien province with 3 charming suspension bridges and a view of the Cherry Blossom island.

Following that, in the 21km, 10km, and 5km races, the athletes also started at different times, starting point at the 7/5 Square, Dien Bien Phu city.

Athlete Kento from Japan was the first to finish the 42km men's race.

The special highlight this year is the marathon route designed to pass through many famous historical sites and beautiful locations of Dien Bien Phu city, including: The Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument; Hill A1; Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum; the picturesque Pa Khoang lake with the Cherry Blossom island; the majestic Ke Nenh pass road; the Muong Thanh valley... All of these have created a lively, exciting atmosphere for the athletes to conquer.

Running event attract athletes from both domestic and international participants.

The Dien Bien Phu Marathon 2024 - Back to Blooming fortress" has left a good impression on athletes and tourists inside and outside the province. Through the race, athletes will contribute to promoting and introducing the beauty of the land, people, culture, history, potentials, and strengths, bringing the image of Dien Bien Phu city and Dien Bien province closer to many domestic and international tourists. As a result, Dien Bien will become an attractive destination chosen by many tourists for sightseeing, experiences, and exploration.

The Youth union members provide water and electrolytes to athletes throughout the competition.

Dien Bien Phu city leaders participated in the Marathon running.

The running race attracted a large number of spectators.

The athletes confidently crossed the finish line amidst enthusiastic cheers from the spectators.

 

Each athlete has their own celebration of victory.

At the end of the competition, 24 outstanding athletes were awarded First, Second, and Third prizes by the Organizing Committee. Kento (Japan) and Leo Thi Tinh (Sơn La) were awarded First prize at the 42km distance. At the 21km distance, Lo Van Đoan and Le Thi Bich were awarded First prize. The 10km distance saw athletes Tong Van Hoan and Khuat Phuong Anh in the top position. Lo Bao Tam and Chu Thi Huong Giang performed exceptionally well and were awarded First prize at the 5km distance.

Mr. Ha Quang Trung, Secretary of Dien Bien Phu City Party Committee, awarded prizes to athletes at the 21 km distance.

Mr. Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded prizes to the winning athletes at the 42km distance.
