Opening of the 2026 Muong Phang Cherry Blossom Festival

On the morning of January 10th, at Flower Island, Keo village, the People's Committee of Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien province, held the opening ceremony of the 2026 Muong Phang Cherry Blossom Festival with the theme "Muong Phang in Spring - Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom," featuring many diverse activities. Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Cao Thi Tuyet Lan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Lo Van Cuong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ms. Lo Thi Minh Phuong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien province; leaders of provincial departments and sectors; representatives of localities in the area; along with a large number of local residents and visitors.

Immersed in the beautiful natural scenery of the Northwest spring, delegates, local residents, and visitors enjoyed the opening artistic program themed “Muong Phang in Spring – Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom.” The program comprised three chapters: “Spring Comes to Muong Phang,” “Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom,” and “Integration and Development,” featuring performances by artists, artisans, and performers from central-level professional art troupes and Dien Bien province. The performances combined singing, dancing, and music, using works and songs praising love for the homeland and country through performing arts and narration, celebrating the beauty of Muong Phang in particular and Dien Bien in general, welcoming the New Year 2026 and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Delivering the opening speech, Mr.Tran Van Tuan, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Muong Phang commune, stated that through the festival, Muong Phang hopes to further affirm its determination to develop into an attractive tourism destination, while calling for and attracting organizations, businesses, and investors to explore cooperation opportunities in tourism and services, thereby contributing to socio-economic development and improving people’s living standards.

In the spring weather, large numbers of local residents and visitors expressed their delight, taking the opportunity to capture beautiful images and moments while admiring the cherry blossom garden of thousands of trees in various forms, and participating in cultural, sports, and tourism activities rich in ethnic identity.

The festival takes place from January 9th to 11th, featuring a wide range of cultural, sports, and tourism activities rich in ethnic identity and international exchange, such as the launch and planting of cherry blossom trees; artistic programs before and during the opening ceremony; the culinary contest “Flavors and Colors of Muong Phang”; exhibitions and introductions of agricultural products, OCOP products, and cultural and tourism offerings; ethnic cultural spaces and Japanese ceremonial rituals; themed camping activities; along with various sports events, traditional folk games, and engaging experiential exchanges.

Thousands of local residents and visitors came to visit the cherry blossom garden, immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere and participating in many distinctive activities at the festival.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is not only a signature cultural and tourism event of the locality but also contributes to promoting the image, people, and tourism potential of Dien Bien; attracting domestic and international visitors; strengthening tourism development linkages among localities; and calling for investment in trade and tourism in Muong Phang. Through this, the festival helps build Flower Island into an attractive destination, enriches the province’s tourism products, meets cultural enjoyment needs, improves people’s spiritual life, and strengthens friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, particularly between Dien Bien province and Japanese localities./.
