Cong people's "Men Loong Phat Ai" Festival

Time: October of the Lunar Calendar every year - Location: In Cong people’s villages, Dien Bien Province.

Cockscomb flower is part of the offering. 

 

Cong, an ethnic group with a particularly small population, mainly concentrate in communes and villages in Vietnam - Laos border area such as Pung Bon, Huoi Moi and Si Van Villages of Pa Thom Commune, Dien Bien District and La Cha Village of Pa Tan Commune, Nam Po District. Their spiritual life is relatively rich with costumes, customs, and festivals namely Flower Festival, Village Worshiping Ceremony, Ancestor Worshiping Ceremony, New house Ceremony... In particular, "Men Loong Phat Ai" Flower Festival is the most unique as it is an event in Cong people’s traditional holiday to mark the end of a year.

"Men Looong Phat Ai" Flower Festival takes place when the harvest is completed. It is an opportunity for Cong people to look forward to their root, express their gratitude to the heaven, earth, and ancestors who granted favorable weather, and good crops and health, and pray for a new year with peace and hapiness.

"Men Looong Phat Ai" Flower Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015.
