On the morning of August 29th, a working delegation from Vestas Development A/S, led by Mr. Frank Sine, Senior Vice President for the Asia-Pacific region, had a meeting in Dien Bien Province regarding wind power projects. Attending the meeting with the delegation were: Tran Quoc Cuong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; and representatives of the leadership of departments and districts: Muong Ang and Dien Bien Dong.

Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, spoke at the meeting.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the development of wind power projects by Vestas Development A/S in Dien Bien Province and the next steps to build and bring these projects into commercial operation as soon as possible. These projects aim to supply and supplement green and renewable energy capacity for Dien Bien Province and northern Vietnam.

The Provincial People’s Committee of Dien Bien has approved Vestas to survey, research, and propose adding two wind power projects to the provincial planning. These projects include the Muong Ang wind power plant (located in the communes of Ang Cang, Ang Nua, Nam Lich in Muong Ang district; Muong Phang commune in Dien Bien Phu city; and Pu Nhi commune in Dien Bien Dong district) and the Dien Bien Dong wind power plant (located in the communes of Muong Lan, Xuan Lao in Muong Ang district; Xa Dung, Phi Nhu, and Muong Luan communes in Dien Bien Dong district). Currently, the company is developing two additional new projects: The Na Tong wind power project with a capacity of 180 MW and the Tia Dinh wind power project with a capacity of 155 MW.

Mr. Frank Sine, Senior Vice President for the Asia-Pacific region, led the delegation in discussing the progress of the wind power projects at the meeting.

However, the implementation of the wind power projects in Dien Bien Dong and Muong Ang is facing some difficulties because the projects have not yet been approved in the Power Development Plan VIII. Therefore, for the next steps of the two wind power projects to proceed, the projects must be included in the Power Development Plan VIII and the Implementation Plan for Power Development Plan VIII.

At the meeting, representatives of the Dien Bien provincial leadership confirmed their support for Vestas in implementing the wind power projects and assured the company of favorable conditions for working in the province. The local authorities will continue to report and clarify with the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to include the renewable energy development projects in the Draft Plan for Supplementary Implementation of Power Development Plan VIII. Regarding the proposed Tia Dinh and Na Tong wind power projects, Dien Bien Province highly supports them and requested Vestas to submit a completed proposal for the implementation of these two wind power projects and coordinate with the company in conducting surveys.

Vestas affirmed its readiness to cooperate with Dien Bien Province and committed to ensuring the development of renewable energy in the province./.
